When most people think of camping, they picture a small tent in a huge forest. Campfire goes here, picnic table goes there, hammock gets strung up between these two trees, etc.
It’s… woodsy. Which is fine, if that’s your thing.
But when I think of camping, I picture the beach.
Sure, I’m happy to park my RV in the woods and walk, but I want to feel the sand between my toes and hear the gulls overhead. I want to swim in the ocean vs. a chlorinated pool.
In other words, I want to camp like the Floridian I am.
Whether you’re a camper, a glamper, an RV road warrior, or somewhere in between, Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is the perfect spot to settle for a while. It’s located in Santa Rosa Beach, on Route 30A, just one mile off US 98.
Topsail Hill is home to traditional campsites (so bring those hammocks!), RV sites, cabins, and great amenities, including water, electricity, grills, picnic tables, and restrooms.
But the real gem of this state park? Three miles of pristine beaches.
You can ride your bike to the water or, if you have loads of equipment, just catch the tram.
Plus, if you need some forest with your beach, Topsail Hill is a bird-watching and hiking paradise. The ocean may be nearby, but you can still bring those binoculars and boots.
A couple of friends of mine recently stayed at the park and gave it a glowing review. Just be sure to plan ahead, as the campsites and cabins book up quickly.
My friends told me it cost them $21 per night for their campsite (using a senior discount). The regular rate is $42/night plus tax, which is still a great deal.
Honestly, Topsail Hill has it all. Camping there is such a fun, affordable way to enjoy everything that 30A has to offer.
If you prefer your outdoor experiences with a hefty dose of ocean, book your site soon!
