How to Buy a House in Destin, Florida

Sometimes, I wish helping people buy houses on the Emerald Coast were more like a cheesy Hallmark movie.

You know what I mean. Everything would be perfect(ly awkward as the main characters careen toward marriage). Zoe is moving home for the summer, and so is her old college boyfriend, who, besides being a snazzy business executive, has also inherited a mansion. He’s practically an all-American prince now. Love that for Zoe.

Hallmark movies always have a happy ending, you know? Give the people what they want!

If only the real estate market were scripted like this. Every buyer has an 800 credit score. They leave their stressful city life behind and move to a charming beach town. Their new home is flawless and move-in ready (the inspection was done in just 20 minutes!). They have ample savings, no debt, and a high-paying job (remote, of course. How else will they “work” while gazing at the ocean?).

Ah, what a life. A seller’s agent calls me a few days before closing, not out of panic or rage, but to tell me that they appreciate my hard work (and love my sense of style). The loan officer rents a plane and flies over my office with a banner that reads, “CLEAR TO CLOSE, DIANE. WE LOVE YOU!”

And then, as if from heaven, a beautifully wrapped box parachutes down to Earth and lands directly on my doorstep. And what do you know? Inside is a platter of fresh sushi. This loan officer is my biggest fan.

We close in less than a week. Everyone is happy. I take the boat out and let my hair blow in the wind like Kate Winslet because… why not?

I don’t have to tell you that—just like a Hallmark movie—this scenario is completely unrealistic. When buying real estate, random things almost always go wrong.

That’s why you need an expert agent to help guide you through the process. If you’re considering buying (or selling) a house in Destin, I’m here for you. I know this city like the back of my hand, and I can help you negotiate the best deal for you and your family.

So, reach out. Life may not be a Hallmark movie, but with a little support and patience, we can still get our happy endings.
