How to Celebrate on the Emerald Coast

How to Celebrate on the Emerald Coast

Helping my clients close on a house is one of the best feelings I’ve experienced as a realtor. There’s nothing like the look of satisfaction on people’s faces during their final walkthrough. They’re grinning at the doors and walls and floors of their forever home, deciding where to put the couch and making a mental guest list for the housewarming party…

It’s a joy to witness.

Buying a house is also one of the most important life decisions that a person can make, so before the madness of moving and unpacking ensues, I like to take my clients out to celebrate. It’s easy to lose sight of it when there are cardboard boxes everywhere and you’re eating cold pizza for the third meal in a row, but buying a home is an incredible achievement. Buyers deserve a deep breath at closing time!

Here in the Destin area, we have tons of excellent restaurant options, but when there’s something to celebrate, Johnny Huston’s Grille & Bar is the place to be. I recently went there with my clients after their final walkthrough and remembered just how much I love it.

Johnny Huston’s has been a local favorite here on the Emerald Coast since 2008. The owner, Ken Walters, named it after his grandfather to commemorate his legacy as an entrepreneur in the area. It’s one of those spots with a story and a soul of its own, and you feel it as soon as you walk in the door.

It’s the kind of place you try for the first time and know you’ll be back for more. The food is delicious, and the staff is fantastic (especially if they know you’re celebrating!).

I ordered fish tacos with the JH chips and jalapeño sauce. You absolutely must try the chips. And that sauce… I think I could eat that on anything!

Ed had the tater tot burger, which is exactly what you’d imagine: a burger with tater tots, smothered in chili. He said it’s the best chili he’s ever had! And Kristi ordered the steak tacos, perfectly cooked and so tender.

So, no matter what you’re celebrating, if you’re looking for a local spot with deep family roots, check out Johnny Huston’s in Navarre. They’ll take good care of you.
